Liverpool’s “£70 million transfer target” reportedly earns barely £3,500 per week at his present club.

The Reds are reportedly interested in signing Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo during the January transfer window. Despite the Seagulls paying a hefty fee for the 21-year-old, Spotrac reports that he is the lowest paid player in the current first-team roster.

His salary are thought to have remained unchanged since signing for Brighton from Independiete del Valle in his native Ecuador in 2021, implying that he is being paid just £3,500 per week.

Caicedo has not signed a new contract since moving to England, with his existing term expiring in the summer of 2025 and reputedly paying £182,000 per year.

That could soon change, with the midfielder starring in the center of the field for both club and country in 2022. Caicedo has emerged as a major figure at the Amex after returning from a loan spell at Beerschot in January.

He has now made 27 senior appearances for Brighton, scoring twice and assisting twice. Caicedo also performed admirably for Ecuador at the recent World Cup in Qatar.

Despite the fact that they were eliminated at the group stage, he played in all three of their games and scored in the last encounter against Ecuador.

Those performances have not gone unnoticed, with Liverpool joining Newcastle United and Chelsea in recent weeks in being linked with a move.

Manchester United were also said to be interested in signing Caicedo during the summer, but the deal fell through.

According to the Express, Brighton would have to spend more than £60 million to part ways with Caicedo during the January transfer window, with other sources stating Liverpool has already had a bid turned down.

Jurgen Klopp has already identified his midfield as an area for strengthening after failing to buy a player in the position during the last transfer window. Loanee Arthur Melo is also out with an injury, restricting Liverpool’s midfield depth.
