Liverpool midfielder Arthur Melo’s agent has confirmed that his client will depart the club at the conclusion of the season
Arthur has struggled to find his feet since his deadline-day move from Juventus. Due to injury and a lack of match fitness, he has only made one cameo appearance this season.
The Reds still have the opportunity to sign the 26-year-old this summer. But, agent Federico Pastorello has indicated to Tuttomercatoweb that the Reds will not use this option.
“He was unlucky: he paid for a season where he played little at Juventus on the penultimate day of the transfer window,” Pastorello said.
“He was assimilating, then he had a boring accident that required surgery.” After three months of injuries, he made his second bench appearance, and I’m hoping he can at least contribute. I believe he will return from the loan, and then we will decide what to do.”
Arthur’s loan spell is ineffective.
What a letdown Arthur’s loan period has turned out to be. Of course, there were plenty of people who could have predicted his demise when Liverpool signed him in September.
Yet, even though we were skeptical, it was thrilling. Everyone enjoys a good redemption story, and as unlikely as it seemed that Arthur would get one in Liverpool, it was still possible.
In the end, that three-month injury layoff has effectively eliminated any chance of an extended stay at Anfield.
Previous to it, there were indications that Arthur was impressing staff and eager to establish himself at the highest level once more. Unfortunately for him, that never yielded any results.
Yet, he is presently in good shape. It would be ideal if he could go on the field a couple of times in the remaining 12 games of the season.
No player should sign for Liverpool unless they want to run out in front of the Anfield fans as a home player. That will be something Arthur remembers no matter where he goes from here. Let’s hope he gets his chance.
