Sky Sports have provided details on Newcastle’s pursuit of Sandro Tonali, following claims of a €50 million deal last night.
In a Monday morning report, Sky commentator (and long-time Newcastle supporter) Pete Graves claimed that the AC Milan midfielder and Leicester City‘s James Maddison are our top two targets.
He claims that we are’very keen’ on Tonali and are working hard to reach an agreement with Milan, with the club hoping to kick off the summer transfer season with the additions of two quality midfielders.
The club has observed the 23-year-old Italian ‘many times’ and he will captain Italy in the U21 European Championships later this month.
Graves goes on to say that we have ‘other choices’ on the list, one of which is Inter star Nicolo Barella, although Tonali and Maddison look to be at the top of our shopping list.
We’ll make a significant push for Maddison this week, according to Fabrizio Romano, but we want a decision from the Foxes attacker “soon.” With a bid for Tonali submitted and negotiations underway, the next four days on Tyneside could be crucial.
