The Croatia centre-back starred during the World Cup in Qatar, and was included in football data giant Opta’s team of the tournament.

He played every minute of his nation’s World Cup campaign, keeping two clean sheets and scoring in the 2-1 triumph over Morocco in the third/fourth place play-off.

Before the event, the 20-year-old was already regarded as a rising talent. Manchester City reportedly submitted an offer for the RB Leipzig centre-back earlier this month. The term “responsibility” refers to the act of determining whether or not a person is responsible for his or her own actions.

Manchester United are also allegedly eager, with former boss Ralf Rangnick proposing that the club recruit him last January.

Chelsea and Liverpool are also interested in getting his talents, but the Reds may be one step ahead of their rivals in this transfer race.

Gvardiol aspires to play for Liverpool.

Gvardiol stated his ambition to play for Liverpool in June 2021, prior to his transfer from Dinamo Zagreb to Leipzig being officially completed.

He told Croatian outlet 24 Sata (quotes via Football365): “Liverpool. My father and I have been watching Liverpool matches since I was a small child, and I grew up just knowing them.

“I started following them when I became more serious about football, and I definitely want the Premier League and Liverpool.”

According to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Liverpool have expressed “serious interest” in signing Gvardiol, who has a contract with Leipzig until 2027.

However, City have also rejoined the fight for his services, with coach Pep Guardiola known to be a fan of the player. They are reportedly willing to give no more than €90 million, which may entice the Reds if they can come up with the cash to sign one of the game’s top young defenders.
