Ben Dinnery, a medical expert, has revealed some specifics about Liverpool right-back Calvin Ramsay’s injury problems
The Merseyside club signed the 19-year-old from Aberdeen in June for a rumoured sum of £6.5 million.
Since then, the teenager has made just two senior appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side, as an ailment that was diagnosed during his medical kept him on the sidelines.
Now that domestic football is due to make a return following the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, certain details have emerged regarding the issue with Ramsay and his injuries.
NEWS: RAMSAY INJURY DETAILS
Dinnery had this to say regarding Ramsay’s injury struggles and eventual recovery to Football Insider.
“This was a stress-related response, a stress fracture,” says the doctor. We forget that he’s a relatively young player who was progressing from the youth team to first-team football in Scotland before making his way to the Premier League. There will always be challenges that arise.
“There is a change in load, a change in surroundings, and a change in intensity. Often, these things do not manifest as an injury, but rather as a niggle, a nagging pain, or a dull ache.
“It’s been picked up and it’s been treated so you need to ease back because it may become something sinister or terrible.
“The fact that it was picked up and it’s corrected and he’s overcome it now is excellent news.
“Calvin Ramsay still needs to be handled, not just because of the injury, but because he’s a young player entering a new league with demands that are completely different from what he’s had before.”
THE VERDICT: RAMSAY’S TIME HAS COME.
Ramsay had his first taste of senior football at Liverpool last month when he played the full 90 minutes in the Carabao Cup victory over Derby County and came on as a late replacement in the 2-0 win over Napoli in the Champions League.
The Scotsman demonstrated his comfort on the ball in the match against Derby, completing 105 of the 111 passes he attempted for a passing accuracy percentage of 95%.
With those appearances under his belt, the goal for him and everyone else at the club is that he will continue to improve and gain more first-team minutes.
