Liverpool are interested in signing Mason Mount, according to Fabrizio Romano of CaughtOffside. And, despite Arsenal’s interest, they are leading the race to sign him. The 24-year-old midfielder has around 15 months left on his Chelsea contract, and many top clubs across Europe are keeping an eye on his situation.
Mount has been a part of the Chelsea setup since he was a child. Back in the day, the 24-year-old was loaned out several times to gain first-team experience. Since then, he has grown from strength to strength.
The England international made his Blues debut in 2019. And has since established himself as one of their key players. The 24-year-old was instrumental in their Champions League triumph a few seasons ago.
Mount has appeared in over 190 games and scored 70 goals. Throughout the season, he has been hot and cold. He is, however, still an important member of their first team. His contract with the club is set to expire in the summer of 2024.
While contract extension talks are ongoing, the player is looking for a short-term contract with a high salary. And the Blues are eager to bargain on their terms. Meanwhile, clubs have begun to prepare bids for the 24-year-old midfielder.
Liverpool are the frontrunners to sign him. They see him as a top priority for next season. The Merseyside club has struggled in the ongoing season due to an ineffective midfield. And their manager, Jurgen Klopp, wants a complete overhaul in the center of the field.
