Liverpool is quietly exploring the possibility of signing West Ham United captain Declan Rice
Rice looks set to leave West Ham this summer after developing into one of the Premier League’s most sought-after midfielders. Liverpool, according to The Mirror, could be in the running.
They claim that the Reds have made ‘discreet enquiries’ about signing the 24-year-old, and that he will cost ‘well over’ £75 million
The same is said to be true of another target, Moises Caicedo of Brighton. Liverpool are also said to have spoken with the Ecuadorian’s club about a possible transfer.
However, with Rice and Caicedo being so highly valued, they may prove to be out of reach for the Reds. As a result, Jurgen Klopp is said to have brought in Fulham’s Joao Palhinha as a ‘cheaper’ option for around £40 million.
Rice’s credentials have become even clearer.
Liverpool’s withdrawal from the race to sign Jude Bellingham has opened the door for a move for Declan Rice.

If the Reds had gone all-in on Bellingham, they would not have been able to afford his England teammate as well. With the 19-year-old out of the picture, Rice could end up being the man they bring in.
Certainly, the move makes sense. Rice, unlike Borussia Dortmund’s Bellingham, has extensive Premier League experience. He’s only twenty-four years old and has made 204 Premier League appearances for West Ham.
He’s already been named captain of his club, has competed in European competition, and has 41 England caps. Joe Cole recently described his displays for his country as “outstanding.”
Rice can also play in either the No.6 or No.8 midfield positions, which Liverpool desperately needs. Put all of that together, along with the fact that he’s a homegrown player, and it’s easy to see why the former Chelsea academy player would be appealing to Liverpool.
Unfortunately, West Ham is aware of this as well. They’re not about to sell their most valuable asset on the cheap. But, with Rice’s contract set to expire in 2025, they don’t have as much clout as they might think. We weren’t keen on bringing in the England international with Bellingham already on the table. Rice, on the other hand, would be the next best thing in terms of consolation.
