Liverpool are looking to add a defender this summer

Liverpool could make a summer move for former Manchester United transfer target Jurrien Timber, with the club in need of defensive reinforcements. Despite previously rejecting a move to the Premier League, the Dutchman is apparently eager to explore his options at the end of the season.

Jurgen Klopp is desperate to change up his squad after an unproductive season at Anfield, with his team appearing to give up their title hopes. Liverpool’s 7-0 victory over Manchester United last weekend reminded many of how powerful they can be when playing at their best.

Following a string of bad performances by Joel Matip, the Reds are reportedly seeking for a new defensive partner for Virgil van Dijk. Ibrahima Konate has been plagued by injuries this season, hampering his progress, while Joe Gomez has also failed to capitalize on opportunities presented to him.

Liverpool have a nine-man shopping list for the summer, according to Sky Deutschland, which includes several central defenders. Timber is one of the centre-backs on the list, and he may have already given his assent to the move.

According to 90min, the 21-year-old has asked his agents to “examine the possibilities” of a summer transfer. This season, the Ajax player has impressed once again in the Eredivisie and appears to believe that the moment has come for him to advance in his career.

Timber was heavily chased by United prior to the start of the season, but he chose not to join his former manager Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford for fear of being sacked by the Netherlands national team ahead of the Qatar World Cup.

The Red Devils do not require a new defender because Lisandro Martinez has adjusted to life in the English Premier League like a duck to water, and Luke Shaw is also flourishing in a central role. They are more interested in bringing in another central midfielder and bringing in a marquee No. 9 to lead the line at the Theatre of Dreams.

But, the sale of marginal stars like Harry Maguire or Victor Lindelof could change that viewpoint. Timber could face a bidding battle, and it seems doubtful that the two Premier League titans are keeping tabs on the versatile defender.
