According to journalist Mo Ibrahim, Leeds United inserted a relegation clause into Jack Harrison’s new contract when he extended his stay at Elland Road earlier this month.

Harrison appeared to be on his way out of Leeds during the January transfer window after four and a half years when Leicester City appeared to be on the verge of completing a £20 million deal for the winger before it fell through on deadline day. The Whites have since attempted to sign Harrison to a new contract, and it was recently confirmed that he had signed a four-year deal.

With the 26-year-old now set to stay in Yorkshire beyond the summer, it’s no surprise that the club factored relegation into his new contract. According to the report, Leeds inserted a relegation clause into his contract that will result in his wages being reduced if the club is relegated to the Championship this season.

While this is certainly the sensible option for the Whites, who will not want to spend money on high salaries if they are relegated, it also demonstrates Harrison’s commitment, as he is eager to stay at the club even if he is paid less.

Jurgen Klopp has spoken out about Liverpool’s’revenge’ against Leeds United, claiming the Whites owe them three points following a shock defeat at Anfield in October.

Leeds appeared to be content with a point on the road as the game on Merseyside entered the final minutes before Crysencio Summerville netted the winner with less than a minute of normal time remaining, giving them only their third win of the season.

The game against Liverpool on Monday is arguably much more important for both sides, as Liverpool looks to clinch European football and Javi Gracia’s side is desperate to keep their Premier League status. While Klopp is determined to bring the victory back to Liverpool, he has no doubts about the Whites’ ability.

“They owe us three points,” the German said in his pre-match press conference. The situation Leeds is in, and of course the last game, which these kinds of games can happen, they try everything. I actually think they’re in a good spot right now, but they took a big hit in that game, and that’s because Magic Roy is back.

“So we expect [Leeds] to be on their toes, massive fight, appropriate atmosphere, so it will be a tough one.”

Liverpool could move up to sixth place in the Premier League table with a win, while Leeds could close the gap between themselves and the relegation zone to five points.
