Cyriel Dessers may be heading for an exit from Rangers following new transfer developments.

The Nigerian striker has been a divisive figure at Ibrox, and recent revelations by Peter Martin suggest he could soon be leaving.

At 29, Dessers had been a regular starter under Philippe Clement, but the Belgian manager recently opted to shake up the number nine position, a move that has proven successful. Hamza Igamane has started in the last three matches, scoring three goals and registering one assist.

Clement seems to have resolved Rangers’ goalscoring issues without including Dessers in his plans. Additionally, Danilo’s return has added to the competition, with his effective link-up play in attack making him a stronger option than Dessers.

The former Cremonese striker may find himself out of the Belgian manager’s plans, and with the January transfer window approaching, his future at Ibrox is uncertain.

Philippe Clement’s pursuit of another striker could signal the end of Dessers’ time at Rangers. Journalist Martin revealed that Clement is looking to add a new forward in January, despite already having Dessers, Igamane, and Danilo in the squad. On the PLZ Football Podcast (5 December), Martin said: “We need to give Clement some leeway. This is the first time he has had three strikers to choose from for a full season, but he still wants another striker in the window.”

Clement has struggled to get the most out of Rangers’ attack this season, with the team scoring just three goals away from home in the Scottish Premiership. While Igamane has shown promise, the 22-year-old still needs time to prove he can be relied upon as the main striker.

If Rangers sign another number nine in January, the club could end up with an excess of players competing for that role. Dessers may seek a move if his situation doesn’t improve, and Rangers could be open to letting him go if they bring in new reinforcements.
