According to the Daily Mail, new Villans manager Unai Emery is hopeful of having the 30-year-old available. However, Birmingham return to Premier League action only eight days after the World Cup concludes. On December 26, they will play the Reds at Villa Park.

As a result, Emery will call Martinez following the Qatar 2022 final to assess his readiness to play on Boxing Day. The goalkeeper is set to start the greatest game of his career as Argentina seeks a third World Cup victory. Argentina hasn’t won the FIFA World Cup since 1986.

After speaking with Martinez, Aston Villa will decide whether Martinez will be available to face Liverpool. The Villans want to know if he will be able to concentrate on their Christmas match. Especially with such a short turnaround after his match against France.

For better or worse, the £17 million former Arsenal star will remember the World Cup final. Martinez, on the other hand, has past experience playing at a top level after winning the Copa America in 2021. He started six of their seven games, including the championship.

Argentina won the Copa America for the first time since 1993, thanks to Martinez’s shutout of Brazil in the final. He could now assist La Albiceleste add to their World Cup victories from 1978 as hosts and 1986 in Mexico. As a result, it might be their first title outside of the Americas.

Lionel Scaloni has entrusted Martinez with Argentina’s goalkeeping duties in all five of their matches at Qatar 2022 so far. He also held clean sheets against Mexico, Poland, and Croatia, as well as saving two penalties in La Albiceleste’s quarter-final shootout win against the Netherlands.

Emery now hopes Martinez finishes the World Cup on a good note by defeating France so that Aston Villa can field the Argentina star against Liverpool. This season, the 25-cap goalkeeper has started all 15 Premier League games for Villans. So far, he has also kept four clean sheets.
