Manchester City have reportedly made Josko Gvardiol their top summer target, following reports that Jurgen Klopp wants him at Liverpool
The Reds face a crucial summer as they attempt to rebuild Klopp’s side after a disappointing season so far.
Liverpool have been far below their usual standards this season, despite consistently challenging for the Premier League in recent years.
They appear to be sticking by Klopp and bolstering his squad as he sees fit, but they may face competition for one of his center-back targets, Josko Gvardiol.
FSG are set to back Klopp this summer, according to Football Transfers, with Gvardiol at the top of Liverpool’s defensive target list.
According to 90 Min, Manchester City has identified Gvardiol as their top center-back target this summer.
Gvardiol is Man City’s top target.
According to the report, both City and Real Madrid will prioritize a move for the RB Leipzig star ahead of the summer transfer window.
Leipzig are expected to demand around £75 million for Gvardiol, complicating a move to either City or Madrid.
Both clubs are said to be interested in Jude Bellingham, who is also a top target for Liverpool. It remains to be seen whether they can afford to move for both Bellingham and Gvardiol, according to 90 Min.
Gvardiol is attracting a lot of attention from top clubs ahead of the summer, thanks to his ‘incredible’ performances for Croatia at the World Cup.
Liverpool are desperate for another top-tier centre-back option, with both Joe Gomez and Joel Matip struggling for form this season.
Virgil van Dijk hasn’t been at his best either, but he and Ibrahima Konate have shown some promising defensive signs.
Gvardiol would undoubtedly be an excellent addition to Klopp’s squad, but Liverpool may struggle to fund such a move, particularly if they fail to qualify for the Champions League this season.
It appears that the Reds must go on a run and finish in the top four in order to provide Klopp with the necessary funds for a rebuild over the summer.
