Liam Keen evaluates the players’ performance after the win over Liverpool
8 Jose Sa
Sa made two crucial saves, one in each half, and was considerably more collected while coming for crosses. He played with power.
7 Nelson Semedo
The right-back played well both defensively and offensively. He is given a small penalty since Liverpool had a lot of success down his wing at the start of the second half.
8 Craig Dawson
Dawson will be overjoyed to have scored and kept a clean sheet on his debut. He was calm and dominating.
8 Max Kilman
Kilman impressed with the ball on the floor and by winning aerial duels in what was likely his greatest performance of the season.
7 Rayan Ait-Nouri
The full-back was effective in both attacking and defending. He, like Semedo, was under a lot of strain at the start of the second half but performed admirably overall.
9 Ruben Neves
The captain delivered a true captain’s performance. He had greater freedom, yet he was still disciplined.
9 Mario Lemina
A game-winning, man-of-the-match performance. Lemina was terrific; he was belligerent and forced Liverpool into submission.
7 Matheus Nunes
Nunes performed admirably in a slightly different situation. He took up solid positions and looked after the ball, but he could have had a bigger offensive influence.
7 Pablo Sarabia
Sarabia spoke well with those around him and appeared at ease playing in the center. He did, however, fade during the game.
7 Matheus Cunha
Cunha performed admirably for the second goal and was kept busy throughout. He also faded before being removed.
8 Hwang Hee-chan
Hwang was unlucky to be injured since he was fantastic. As always, threatening on the ball and hardworking.
Substitutes: Adama Traore (for Hwang, 41), Joao Moutinho (for Sarabia, 60), Raul Jimenez (for Cunha, 60), Jonny Castro Otto (for Ait-Nouri, 83). (for Lemina, 83).
Bentley, Collins, Bueno, and Hodge were not used as substitutes.
