Speaking to Sky Sports after the Reds’ 0-0 draw with Chelsea last night, Klopp was asked if the Dutchman would be able to return for the weekend clash.

“I think he’ll be ready for the weekend,” Klopp said.

The 31-year-old was unable to travel to Stamford Bridge due to illness, according to The Athletic. He did not train in the run-up to the game, so he was ruled out of contention.

Van Dijk will return to Liverpool’s defense against Arsenal after his performance last night.

While Ibrahima Konate performed admirably at the back against Chelsea, making an early goal-line clearance to deny Mateo Kovacic, Joel Matip appeared out of his depth.

He appeared somewhat panicked when he was on the ball, almost as if he didn’t know what to do with it.

His deterioration in form demonstrated once again why Klopp should prioritize bringing in another center-back this summer.

Van Dijk, who has been dubbed “incredible” by Leeds United striker Willy Gnonto, will almost certainly replace Matip in the Liverpool defense against Arsenal as the Reds attempt to recover from a difficult few weeks.
