What Darwin Nunez was doing last night as Liverpool and Everton players were fighting is funny.

During last night’s Merseyside Derby, Liverpool attacker Darwin Nunez was seen taunting Everton’s Idrissa Gana Gueye

There was a flashpoint near the end of a derby that was mainly clear of overt hostility. It has to come from Andy Robertson of Liverpool.

Robbo, the Reds’ principal instigator, ruffled up Everton’s Jordan Pickford and Conor Coady with some mischievous pranks.

The Evertonian’s frustration got the best of them, and half the team poured in. While Amadou Onana and Kostas Tsimikas seemed to be the most impassioned on either side, Nunez made his presence felt.

Nunez was observed on Twitter by LFC Transfer Room flashing a 2-0 scoreline towards Gueye with his fingers. Darwin, who seems to be always involved in these situations, can usually be counted on for a good laugh.

This season, far too many jokes have been directed at the Uruguayan. But, with the Reds cruising to victory and him playing well on the night, he can indulge in a little mocking.

Liverpool reclaims their fight

In reality, there was no need for Darwin to join the fray yesterday night. The 23-year-old could have sat back in his seat and watched the pile-on unfold if he hadn’t already been substituted.

But, as we’re soon discovering, that’s not Nunez’s style. The Uruguay international has already demonstrated this numerous times in his brief Liverpool tenure.

In that regard, Gueye’s little show could have gone far worse. This season, we’ve seen what happens when you rile Nunez up. We don’t want that to happen again.

Fortunately, the Everton player did not appear to be bothered by Darwin. Perhaps the red mist would have descended if he had.

In the end, the whole endeavor was pointless. But, after watching Liverpool be so lethargic for the majority of the season, it was refreshing to see our boys put up a fight.

The bite was back in their play for the majority of the game, not only during the handbags. If that continues, there is still time to turn this season around. Darwin’s developing reputation among a fan base that already adores him will not be harmed by this. Now you just need some goals, big fella!
