According to O Jogo, Argentina’s World Cup champion Enzo Fernandez is prioritizing a move to Premier League giant Liverpool, despite interest from Manchester City, Barcelona, and Real Madrid
Benfica took a risk and did something that no one else was willing to do just six months ago. They activated the £18 million release clause in Enzo Fernandez’s River Plate contract.
Even the most enthusiastic Benfica supporter could not have guessed how far Enzo would progress in such a short amount of time.
The 21-year-old playmaker posed for photos on Sunday night at Qatar’s Lusail Stadium while wearing a World Cup winner’s medal around his neck, the Young Player of the Tournament award in one hand, and the Jules Rimet in the other.
Meanwhile, his asking price has grown from £18 million to almost £100 million, with the Portuguese giants refusing to let Enzo go for less than his eye-watering release clause.

According to La Capital, the Merseyside giants have already signed an agreement with Enzo’s club. O Jogo has finally substantiated his claim. Liverpool will also match any bid made by competing suitors, with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, and Manchester United among those batting their eyelashes in the direction of a playmaking’genius’ comparable to a young Zinedine Zidane.
Liverpool appears to be given ‘priority’ by Enzo.
Enzo certainly wants to become the most expensive signing in the history of one of Europe’s most legendary footballing institutions. And, as evidenced by his great performances in the Qatar World Cup, he is not a man who succumbs to pressure.
Liverpool has a good working relationship with Benfica as well. They agreed to a £64 million deal for Darwin Nunez last August.
“He has a bright future,” Argentina captain Lionel Messi said of Fernandez, who kicked off Sunday’s final victory over France. “Enzo is extremely bright. He exudes charisma and makes fantastic passes. Spectacular.”
The level at which he plays is quite amazing. “At only 21 years old,” adds former Real Madrid coach Jose Peseiro.
“The best player I worked with at Real Madrid was Zinedine Zidane.” Of course, I don’t want to draw parallels. But I’m talking about Enzo’s brief and astonishing vision, which reminds me of Zidane.
“How old is Enzo? Is he 21?” That is either a lie or he is a genius!”
