Liverpool signed a player with “a lot of potential” in Cody Gakpo, according to Steve Nicol. He rescued their month of January

It’s reasonable to say that Liverpool did not have the January that fans had hoped for. The Reds went the entire transfer window without signing a midfielder, despite the fact that one had been obvious since the summer.

In fact, Liverpool confirmed as much when they signed Arthur Melo on the final day of the summer transfer season. Only the Brazilian has played for 13 minutes since undergoing surgery.

The club, though, chose not to solve the situation with a signing last month. Few fans would consider the winter a success.

Despite this, they did make one signing, and it was a big one. Cody Gakpo joined the club from PSV Eindhoven as a skilled attacker. No, he is not the midfielder that was sought, but he is an excellent acquisition.

Liverpool legend Steve Nicol analyzed the entire transfer window, giving the Reds a ‘C’ for their efforts. It might have been considerably worse if it hadn’t been for Gakpo.
“Gakpo’s a good signing,” he said, according to ESPN. “He’s a young player with a lot of potential.

“It’s not like [Jurgen Klopp] signed another Arthur, to put it mildly. That was a complete disaster, so it’s not one of them.

“This guy can play, and he will undoubtedly help Liverpool.”

Cody Gakpo plays for Liverpool.

Gakpo hasn’t yet demonstrated his finest level in Red, but he’s up against a tremendous assignment. He’s only 23 years old, playing for a new club in a new nation with a new style of play, and joining a struggling team.

That makes life difficult for everyone. Even Mohamed Salah is underperforming. To top it all off, Gakpo is currently playing as a striker, a position he despises.

So we’re not passing judgment on him just yet. Anyone who has seen Gakpo play for PSV or the Netherlands knows he is a terrific talent with a bright future at Liverpool.

Now if he could only play in midfield.
