‘They’d want him,’ says Paul Merson. Liverpool would undoubtedly re-sign the £35 million player Klopp recently sold.

Liverpool would re-sign Sadio Mane ‘in an instant,’ according to Paul Merson, if he became available

Following six brilliant years at Anfield, the Reds sold Mane for £35 million this summer. Liverpool have been a ghost of their former selves in the six months since. It’s debatable whether this is due to Mane’s absence. But Merson believes it is playing a role.

The expert, who is writing his Premier League predictions for this weekend on Sportskeeda, believes Liverpool made a tremendous mistake in moving him.

“I’ve said it since the beginning: selling Sadio Mane was a horrible decision,” Merson writes. “If he came up for sale again, they’d buy him right away. He was an integral element of that team and was underappreciated. Liverpool sold one of their top players for pennies on the dollar, and it’s now coming back to bite them.”

Liverpool’s choice on Mane is out of their control.

Merson is correct; he has been hammering this drum for quite some time. Before Liverpool shipped Mane to Bayern Munich, perhaps.

But, in general, he’s more wrong than he realizes. If given the opportunity, Liverpool might bring Mane back, but it isn’t up to them. It was never the case.

Merson appears to be ignoring the basic truth that Sadio wants to leave. Liverpool decided not to sell him. The 30-year-old man desired to leave. This is something that the pundit simply refuses to acknowledge.

Anyway, ignoring all of that, would Liverpool re-sign Mane?

The quick answer is most likely yes. Jurgen Klopp was obviously a tremendous fan of his, and during his tenure at Anfield, he achieved legendary status.

True, he does not suit the profile of the players the Reds are looking for. In reality, he is most likely the polar opposite.

Klopp, on the other hand, finds value in keeping these elder brains around, as evidenced by his readiness to give Roberto Firmino a new deal. If Mane was prepared to return in a reduced capacity to bring in players like Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez, that would be ideal.

However, it is not going to happen. Mane was reportedly seeking a massive wage increase if he had stayed at Anfield past last summer. Despite his present ailment, he still wants a vital position in a big team and is getting one at Bayern. Mane’s Liverpool story has been written, for better or worse. What a story it was, too.
