Report: Ange Postecoglou prepared to make Tottenham U-turn by starting a £15 million player against Manchester City

Tottenham Hotspur return to League Cup play on Wednesday night against Manchester City, following another disappointing weekend.

Tottenham lost to Crystal Palace on Sunday, just when Ange Postecoglou thought the club had recovered from their defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Spurs have no time to reflect on their defeat at Selhurst Park, as their Carabao Cup odyssey continues on Wednesday in north London.

Pep Guardiola is poised to field a weaker squad against Tottenham on Wednesday night, with his primary focus on the league and Champions League.

However, there now appears to be a team selection choice going to be made by Postecoglou, which may not sit well with

Timo Werner poised to start for Tottenham against Manchester City.
According to GiveMeSport, Postecoglou will give Werner the nod against Manchester City on Wednesday night.

This comes after the German winger was removed from the starting lineup after being replaced at halftime against AZ Alkmaar.

Young Mikey Moore began against the Dutch and will play on the left versus Palace on Sunday.

However, with Heung-min Son still out due to injury and Wilson Odobert suffering an injury setback, the £15 million Werner is expected to reclaim his left-back berth.

Given Werner’s terrible start to the season, this move may not appeal to everyone in a game that Spurs fans will regard as a must-win.

Tottenham Hotspur will face Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday, and it promises to be an exciting match.

Spurs fell 1-0 to Crystal Palace in their last league encounter, but they rebounded with a 2-1 victory against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

Villa’s past two games in all competitions were a 1-1 draw with AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League and a 2-1 loss to Palace in the EFL Cup.

Paul Merson admits it was a “bad result” for Villa, but he is confident that Unai Emery’s side will score against Tottenham.

What Merson has said about Spurs vs Aston Villa

Merson stated: “That exit would have been very upsetting for Villa. However, I still believe they will defeat Tottenham.

“Villa’s high line may struggle against Spurs, but I simply cannot see them failing to score in this game. If Tottenham loses this game, it will be a huge setback to their chances of qualifying for the Champions League.

“Villa can open up an eight-point lead over Spurs if they win, which may spell the end of the north Londoners’ aspirations of reaching fourth. I really believe Villa have a little more in them than Tottenham and absolutely expect them to win here.

Must-win game for both teams.
Spurs and Villa will face significant challenges in achieving consistent Premier League performances, given their European commitments.

The victory over Pep Guardiola’s side will give the team a huge boost, and they must maintain that form at home against Villa.

Spurs will be missing centre-back Micky van de Ven for this crucial match, but Postecoglou will be happy with Radu Dragusin’s performance in the last game. He needs to step up right now.

Villa, on the other hand, have performed admirably in the Champions League, but Emery will be concerned about the recent results.

It is an excellent opportunity for them to recover, and they have the talent to produce a positive outcome away from home.
