After reports that Liverpool want to sign Inter Milan player Nicolo Barella, Jamie Carragher has expressed his admiration for him
Last night, when covering the Italian team’s Champions League match against Porto on CBS Sports, the Reds veteran heaped praise on the 26-year-old.
“When you look about how clubs set up now, you see Interplay with a back three with five in midfield, or a 4-3-3, and I think he’s arguably one of the greatest in Europe playing in that tucked in, right-sided central midfield position. He’s box to box, and he scores from there. “We witnessed how exceptional he was for his national team in winning the European Championships,” Carragher remarked.
He’s that player who can go in there and open things up, but that inside right position is so essential in football right now, and can you make runs from there? He advances ahead of the striker. And he’s a dangerous goal threat.
“Each top team requires goals from midfield. It’ll be interesting to see if he continues at Inter, but do you think he’ll go to the Premier League or one of the Spanish giants one day? I absolutely believe he has the capacity.”
Liverpool scout Paul Goldrick and head scout Barry Hunter, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, have been studying Barella for some time now and are considering a summer transfer for him.
