The Spanish international would have undoubtedly played a significant role for his nation in this important competition, but because of his injury history, he appears to have lost Luis Enrique’s favor, according to The Athletic.
It will be intriguing to see if Thiago can recover and perform well enough for Liverpool in the next weeks and months to perhaps regain his spot in the Spain squad, but the odds are against him.
Though it’s disappointing to think that such a gifted athlete won’t be participating on the big stage this winter, LFC supporters might feel glad if it means he will get a break in the middle of the season.
The fact that the 31-year-old may never again get the opportunity to compete in a major championship could prove to be a massive letdown for him personally, as he is unquestionably still capable of making an impact for a strong squad like Spain, who will be among the favorites to win the trophy.
