Manchester United set to miss out on David de Gea’s replacement?

Tottenham is close to negotiating personal terms with Brentford’s David Raya, who is valued at £40 million.

Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, has also been linked with Manchester United.

WHAT OCCURED? Spurs are close to an agreement with Raya on personal terms, according to Fabrizio Romano, but have yet to agree on a fee with Brentford, who want £40 million for the 27-year-old. United were also rumoured to be investigating a deal to recruit Raya to compete with David de Gea, but they now appear poised to miss out, while the Bees have prepared for his departure by signing Freiburg’s Mark Flekken.

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Hugo Lloris has stated his intention to quit Tottenham this summer, ending an 11-year affiliation with the club, and the club is now looking for a new goalkeeper to play under newly-appointed manager Ange Postecoglou.

AND THEN THERE’S THIS: Raya has emerged as a notable goalkeeper at Brentford, where he played every minute of the 2022/23 Premier League season, keeping 12 clean sheets as Thomas Frank‘s side placed ninth.

WHAT COMES NEXT FOR RAYA? As the goalkeeper nears an agreement with Spurs, he will be hoping that the two clubs can agree on a cost for his signature.
