Manchester United are concerned about three players missing their match against rivals Liverpool on Sunday
The Red Devils travel to Merseyside on a four-game Premier League unbeaten streak, looking to win at Anfield for the first time since 2016.
Liverpool is also unbeaten in their previous four games, and recent rumours of potential injuries for the visitors will boost their confidence even further.
According to the United Stand, Jadon Sancho and Luke Shaw will have late fitness tests before the game, and the Daily Mail claims that Raphael Varane will also be assessed.
While they may still play, it is a big setback for United, who had hoped to have a completely healthy squad available.
Yet, given the number of games Erik ten Hag’s team has played, it was only a matter of time before exhaustion set in.
Ten Hag maintains his optimism.
The Dutch manager stated in his pre-game press conference that he expects Luke Shaw to return, so he remains positive about the situation.
Both the left-back and Sancho were absent from the midweek FA Cup clash against West Ham, but neither absence was deemed critical.
Varane came on in United’s 3-1 win over the Hammers, but he will be checked ahead of the game due to a leg problem, according to the Mail Online.
The centre-back has been an integral part of Ten Hag’s transformation at Old Trafford, and his absence would give Liverpool a big advantage.
Jurgen Klopp’s team can’t afford to lose any more points if they want to salvage their season and finish in the top four.
They have the opportunity to close the gap on Tottenham Hotspur to three points if they win on Sunday, and they will be hoping that their strong record versus United at home continues.
