‘Waste of money,’ says Jamie Carragher of Liverpool’s ’embarrassing’ signing

With Carragher acknowledging the need to buy three midfielders in the next 12 months at the end of last season, it’s time to look for less expensive alternatives to the English teen.
Their transfer incompetence has been slammed by fans, and now Champions League champion Carragher has chastised the club for appearing ‘weak’ and ‘negligent’.

Liverpool will need ready-made additions this summer if they are to reclaim their title-challenging form from this season.
Liverpool must have been aware of the urgent need for a midfield regeneration, notwithstanding their interest in Bellingham and Aurelien Tchouameni, based on his statements.
At this time, Arthur Melo, a last-minute loan signing by Klopp Carragher that Carragher has branded a “embarrassing climbdown” and a “waste of money,” enters the picture.
“That is [Klopp’s] biggest mistake on this issue, and he knows it,” Carragher wrote in The Telegraph. “The last-minute scramble for Arthur Melo on the final day of last August’s transfer window was the big giveaway that he realized his error in not recruiting before the last pre-season.”
Liverpool, situated in Anfield, justified their financial spend as a way to buy time while looking for a long-term, world-beating midfielder.
“That was a waste of money and an embarrassment.” Liverpool was looking forward to the longer-term aim, which served as reason at the time.
Arthur Melo’s unsuccessful spell at Anfield
The Brazilian international’s loan period in Merseyside, for which he paid a cost of £3.9 million, was a flop.
Melo has largely played for Liverpool’s Under-21 team, making one senior team debut in a 1-0 loss to Napoli.
According to transfer source Dean Jones, their loaned midfielder Melo has been nothing more than a “panic buy.”
Melo’s absence from Anfield matches has been mostly due to injury after signing from Italian powerhouse Juventus.
Unfortunately, the player in issue will most likely return to Turin this summer because the effort was a failure for both parties.
The Anfield hierarchy will have to accept this as yet another hiring disaster, but all eyes will be on their summer transfer activity now that their chase of one of the game’s brightest talents has come to a stop.
