Liverpool transfer round-up: Arthur’s agent provides an update, with the Reds “open to” a move to Serie A
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will begin the Premier League season outside of the Champions League places, with last season’s runners-up expected to splurge in January.
Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp have some transfer market decisions to make before returning to Premier League action at the end of December.
The Reds’ first competitive game following the World Cup will be against reigning Premier League winners Manchester City in the EFL Cup, followed by a league trip to Aston Villa. They’ve been busy over the mid-season break, playing friendlies against Lyon and AC Milan, but it’ll be back to business shortly.
With Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota out injured, attacking targets have dominated the news around Klopp’s team. Here are the latest Liverpool transfer speculations.
Arthur’s representative provides an update
Federico Pastorello, Arthur Melo’s agent, insists the Brazilian international will stay at Anfield despite suggestions that his loan from Juventus could be cut short. Before suffering an early-season injury, the former Barcelona great made just one substitute appearance for the Reds.
“He will be fully committed to Liverpool in January,” Pastorello told Tuttomercatoweb (via the Liverpool Echo). “I don’t know who questioned the rumors regarding his prospective return to Turin, but that’s not the case. Absolutely.
“He’s three weeks ahead of schedule,” he said of Arthur’s comeback from injury. “He recovered 30% faster than anticipated, and he should be ready for the start of the new championship.”
Manchester United will compete in the Bellingham race.
According to The Times, Manchester United is interested in Liverpool target Jude Bellingham. After impressing in Qatar, the England international has been linked with a summer move away from Borussia Dortmund.
Erik ten Hag is believed to be a major supporter of Bellingham, who he feels capable of “making history”. After links in the summer, United are still not ruling out a move for Dutch international Frenkie de Jong.
During the World Cup, Bellingham appeared to be on good terms with Liverpool’s England stars, particularly Jordan Henderson. There will be pressure on the 19-year-old to make the right decision wherever he goes next.
According to the Mail, Liverpool are interested in loaning out US midfielder Weston McKennie. The midfielder is currently on loan at Juventus, who loaned Arthur Melo to the Reds over the summer.
According to reports, a short-term deal would have no impact on the club’s interest in Jude Bellingham. Borussia Dortmund’s teenage midfielder is in great demand following his World Cup achievements for England, with a summer exit expected.
McKennie, who joined Juventus on a loan deal from Schalke in 2020, has appeared in more over 60 Serie A games for the club. As Gregg Berhalter’s team was eliminated in the round of 16, he started all four of his country’s games in Qatar.
