Of course, John Henry owns Liverpool FC, but they are far from his sole sporting team. Through FSG, Henry is also associated with the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball and the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League.

As a result, he found himself in an unusual situation this week. The Penguins traveled to Boston to take on the Red Sox at Fenway Park. It meant Henry was in Boston, not to support his own club, but to support the visiting squad.

However, that was not the reason why Bostonians booed Henry when he took his seat. They were expressing frustrations that Liverpool fans are all too familiar with.

In Boston, John Henry was booed.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Red Sox supporters are enraged with FSG after slipping behind their competitors. In recent years, the squad has regularly failed to land major targets, and they have lost their greatest player as a result.

What’s the reason? Fans say FSG is stingy and unable to compete with others that invest. Many Liverpool fans have leveled the same charge against them.

So it’s a peculiar situation. Henry and FSG have three enormous teams but appear to be financially incapable of competing.

Given how successful the team has been in recent years, that may be a touch harsh on the Liverpool side of things. The necessity for a rebuild, on the other hand, will truly put their capacity to contend to the test in 2023.

But, as things are, Henry is receiving it from all sides. His eagerness to locate investment in Liverpool demonstrates his recognition of his difficulties, but that money must come.

Otherwise, he’ll get booed on two different continents.
