Liverpool have been linked with a deal for Kylian Mbappe, and Express Sport looks at who may go the other way
In return for Kylian Mbappe, Liverpool might offer a number of players. According to reports, the Reds have made a substantial offer to Paris Saint-Germain in order to sign the contract rebel.
Mbappe’s contract at PSG expires in a year. The French club does not want to lose one of the top players in the world on a free transfer.
Clubs all across Europe are interested in signing France’s superstar. Earlier this week, Spanish journalist Edu Aguirre reported El Chiringuito TV that Liverpool had made an offer worth roughly £170 million.
Instead, the Reds could try to offer players as part of a deal to sign Mbappe. Express Sport examines four prospective Liverpool stars who could be utilised in a player-plus-cash swap.
Alcantara, Thiago
Liverpool is overhauling their midfield and has already made two deals. Alexis MacAllister and Dominik Szoboszlai have joined, and Jurgen Klopp’s work may not be done.
Thiago battled with injuries last season, and some believe that the Premier League is now too fast for him at the age of 32. The Spaniard may still play for PSG in the French league and bring Champions League experience.
Fabinho
Last season was Fabinho’s worst in a Liverpool shirt. Because neither Mac Allister nor Szoboszlai are defensive midfielders, he would have to be replaced if he left.
Klopp will have to decide whether Fabinho is capable of resuming his form from his first four years at the club. If not, he may try to sell him to PSG.
Jota, Diogo
Jota was injured for much of last season and did not become a regular starter until late in the season. With braces against Leeds, Nottingham Forest, and Southampton, he found some form in front of goal.
However, Mbappe’s arrival would make it more difficult for him to obtain regular game time. At the age of 26, he could be an appealing option for PSG.
Darwin Nunez’s
Okay, it may be premature to dismiss Darwin as a Liverpool player. In his first season in English football, he showed hints of his promise.
He fell out of favor in the second half of the season, however. There would be little room for him and Mbappe in the Liverpool squad, and he could absorb a substantial portion of the transfer cost demanded by PSG.
