According to journalist Bruno Andrade, Liverpool may try to sign Matheus Nunes of Wolves in 2023 after missing out on him this summer

When it came to midfield recruitment during the summer transfer window, the Reds had a difficult time because it was obvious that significant reinforcements were required there.

Nunes was a player that was frequently mentioned in connection with transfers to Anfield, but he ultimately decided to leave Sporting CP for Wolves.

It was a wise move on the part of the Wanderers to bring in the Portuguese master, who is already proving to Liverpool what they were missing out on. Ever since his move to Molineux, he has started every match, which is the kind of dependability Klopp values in his midfielders.

The Reds will try to recruit Nunes next year instead, with Enzo Fernandez also a possibility, according to a tweet from Andrade on Thursday:

“Liverpool consider Matheus Nunes to bolster their midfield in 2023. Enzo Fernandez is also on Jurgen Klopp’s target list. The relationship with Jorge Mendes weighs in favor of the pair.”

A seismic summer at Liverpool in the midfield department, something that is desperately needed, would result from the signing of Nunes in 2023 along with Jude Bellingham rather than instead of.

That so, unless Bruno Lage’s team was relegated from the Premier League, it would be surprising if the 24-year-old departed Wolves so early in his career.

Given that Nunes had previously been praised as “unbelievable” by former colleague Goncalo Santos and is already averaging two tackles per game for Wolves in the league this season, only a big offer is likely to be able to lure Nunes away from Molineux.
