According to rumours, Liverpool has a significant advantage over Manchester United in the hunt to recruit Napoli defender Kim Min-jae
The Red Devils are looking for a new center-back this summer, and the 26-year-old has surfaced as a potential candidate.
He has established himself as one of Napoli’s key players, propelling the Italian club to a 19-point lead at the top of Serie A.
Kim is said to have a £43 million release clause in his contract, which will run for two weeks in July, when multiple clubs may compete for his signature.
Liverpool will compete with Manchester United for Kim.
According to Ben Jacobs, Liverpool and Tottenham are also interested in signing the South Korean.
While he believes the pair have a big advantage over Manchester United, the presence of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in the first squad could stymie Kim’s progress.
“With that type of player, Manchester United are in a difficult position because he views himself as a starting centre-back, and they obviously have Martinez and Varane there.” “Jacobs explained to TEAMtalk. “Some teams, on the other hand, are looking to insert someone right into their starting lineup.
“Tottenham are another club who have scouted the player and they would be trying to bring in a starting centre-back, as with Liverpool as well.
“And I think that would give those two clubs a slight advantage over Manchester United, because if Erik ten Hag is going to play a back four and Varane and Martinez are fit, then it becomes extremely difficult to persuade a player in the form and with the potential of Kim Min-jae to go to Old Trafford over those two other clubs. Especially given that he is not an 18-year-old.”
Kim’s excellent form has definitely not gone unnoticed, with Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti describing him as “amazing” during a complimentary appraisal.
“I’ve seen few players in my life and career with Kim Min-skills jae’s and traits.” “Spalletti stated.
“He’s terrific, always attacking – he should start every game.”
