According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Liverpool is still interested in signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham
According to the CBS Sports journalist, Manchester City and Real Madrid are the other two main contenders for the highly-rated England international, with Manchester United also showing an interest.
Man United are prioritizing the signing of a top-tier striker this summer, and adding Bellingham to that list means they will have to break the bank if they want to land two marquee signings.
Furthermore, it is unclear whether the Glazers will remain in charge of the club and who will become the next owner at Old Trafford if the Americans decide to sell.
Liverpool are losing ground in the race to sign Bellingham, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic, but Jacobs believes the Reds still have a good chance. In fact, they have done the “most legwork to date,” establishing a close relationship with the player’s father, Mark.
Bellingham also has a good relationship with Liverpool duo Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold, but the Reds will have to pay more than £100 million to sign him.
What is the future of Bellingham?
The 19-year-old is an incredibly gifted midfielder who is a leader both on and off the field. He has been a consistent performer for both club and country and would be an ideal signing for the Reds, who are looking to improve their midfield options.
Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are set to leave after their contracts expire, while James Milner and Fabinho are also facing uncertain futures.
Dortmund is under no pressure to sell Bellingham, and they are still attempting to persuade him to extend his contract in order to increase his value.
Bellingham would add tremendous depth and quality to United’s midfield, which is in desperate need of reinforcements. However, they must first sign a striker, and their top targets, Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen, would cost more than £100 million.
Jurgen Klopp has long admired Bellingham, but the club’s budget could suffer if they do not qualify for the Champions League next season.
