Liverpool now has two of the top young players in the world, according to GOAL
Every year, the NXGN Awards choose a group of youths who are at the top of their class – athletes with whom they have high expectations for the future.
GOAL has released their 50 finalists for 2023, and two Anfield players are among them: Stefan Bajcetic and Ben Doak.
Mr. Stefan Bajcetic
The 18-year-old midfielder has to be included given his spectacular journey to the top this season, having played for Jurgen Klopp’s first-team.
Liverpool needed a vibrant presence in the centre of the park, and Bajcetic filled that void.
He became a vital part of Klopp’s starting XI after being one of the only Reds players to impress this season.
Unfortunately, it was only just revealed that he had sustained a thigh injury that will keep him out until the end of the season.
Liverpool will be hopeful that Bajcetic can recuperate without incident this summer, as he will play a key role in the team next year.
Mr. Ben Doak
Ben Doak, who joined Anfield from Celtic last summer, is the other Merseysider.
This season, the 17-year-old has risen to the top of Kirkby’s youth ranks, having already been given a handful of first-team opportunities.
The Scotsman has made five senior appearances, including two in the Premier League.
Doak will continue to play a role for both sides after impressing with the U21s thus far.
He may even get more first-team appearances next year, but because he’s already doing so well with Barry Lewtas’ young team, there’s no need to hasten his development.
