Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Matheus Nunes is now a target for Liverpool this summer
According to Ryan Taylor of Give Me Sport, as Liverpool prepares for the next transfer window.
Jurgen Klopp’s squad will require some investment this summer, so it will be a busy summer at Anfield.
Central midfield is an area that requires attention, and Liverpool has been linked with a number of candidates.
The most high-profile target is Jude Bellingham, but Real Madrid and Manchester City are also interested in the English wonderkid.
Some Liverpool club legends believe Bellingham will eventually join the Reds.
Whether that is the case, Liverpool may be looking for more than one midfielder this summer.
Less than a year after joining Wolves, Matheus Nunes has emerged as a Liverpool target.
The club is a big fan of the Portuguese 24-year-old, but Julen Lopetegui may not be.
That could help Jurgen Klopp bring in the talented international.
Liverpool is very interested in Matheus Nunes.
Taylor commented on Nunes’ future, saying, “I think he’s highly rated by Liverpool because they were scouting him during his time at Sporting.”
“Interestingly, I don’t think Lopetegui thinks much of Nunes.”
“He isn’t always in the team; he is usually there, but he doesn’t play every week like Neves or Moutinho.”
“At the start of the season, I predicted that Nunes would emerge as the heir to Neves at Wolves.”
“They’re slightly different players, but I think there’s room for a deal there.”
Nunes had played in all but one of Wolves’ Premier League games since joining the club in the summer.
Lopetegui benched Nunes against Leeds United, but he was called up by Portugal for the international break.
Matheus Nunes is a fantastic dribbler who prefers to carry the ball up the pitch through midfield rather than passing it, which is something Liverpool currently lacks.
It’s a skill that Bellingham possesses, so the Portuguese could be an alternative to him rather than being brought in at the same time.
Liverpool believe Nunes has real potential, which has yet to be realized at Wolves.
Anfield could be the next step in his Premier League career.
