Liverpool have been linked with a move for Youssoufa Moukoko in 2023, and a new update on the club’s interest of the player has emerged from a reputable source.
CBS News correspondent Ben Jacobs has provided an update on the Premier League transfer fight for the signing of the Borussia Dortmund striker.
“Multiple Premier League clubs are ready to sign Dortmund’s Youssoufa Moukoko in January, even though he’s available on a free transfer this summer,” Jacobs tweeted. Chelsea is in first place. They were making headway on a summer agreement before Armando Broja’s injury.”
Following up his first tweet with a further accusation on Liverpool’s involvement: “Manchester United are also considering moving earlier and could be promoted by what other suitors do. They have been following Moukoko for quite some time, but negotiations have not progressed. Liverpool and Tottenham are also major fans of Moukoko.”
Consider him and Diaz.
There is no doubt that Jurgen Klopp will be on the lookout for the next generation of players to make an impression at Anfield, since the present squad is nearing the end of their careers.
Virgil van Dijk, Jordan Henderson, Roberto Firmino, Mohammed Salah, James Milner, Joel Matip, and Thiago Alcantara are all in their 30s at this point, with Liverpool fielding the joint-oldest Premier League starting XI against Fulham at Craven Cottage on the season’s opening weekend.
With Firmino out of contract in the summer and several injuries plaguing the attacking threat, the powers that be at Anfield have already begun to redevelop the forward line with the signings of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez earlier this year, but with Firmino out of contract in the summer and several injuries plaguing the attacking threat, further depth could be something worth considering.
Moukoko’s arrival would be a big coup for the Reds, as the young star has been excelling while climbing through the ranks of Dortmund’s youth set-up over the previous few years and has now earned his chance to play regularly in the first squad this season.
Over 14 Bundesliga games, the goal machine – who Erling Haaland named the “greatest talent in the world” – has scored six goals, provided three assists, and created two good chances, while also averaging 1.9 shots on goal and 2.2 duels won per game.
Those numbers are amazing on their own, but when you realize that he only turned 18 in November, they become astonishing.
Moukoko’s season hasn’t been a one-off however, as he has already recorded 153 goals and 35 assists in his career, with a goal contribution every 51 minutes.
With that in mind, the prospect of him joining the club’s new generation in Diaz and Nunez is tantalizing for fans.
Indeed, if the club can recruit Moukoko in the new year, Klopp and Moukoko may form a lethal offensive tandem.
When Diaz’s work rate and ability to get into the most dangerous spots on the pitch are combined with the German striker’s sharp eye for goal, opponents may be in for a nightmare.
Last season, the Colombian had an eye-catching 11 assists, which would go down extremely well with the Dortmund wonderkid in an offensive setting.
Having said that, Liverpool must do all possible to outbid their Premier League opponents for the acquisition of Moukoko, who may add even more quality to the club’s fearsome front three.
