Liverpool transfer news: As the Mason Mount saga continues, the Reds are being linked with a move for a French defender who could arrive on a free transfer
The latest international break has concluded, and all eyes and attention will now turn to club football, specifically the return of Liverpool.
Liverpool hasn’t played since a 1-0 loss to Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League round-of-16 tie on March 15, but they’ll be back in action this Saturday, when they face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Meanwhile, the rumor mill has been churning. The transfer market, like Wall Street, appears to be awake at all hours. Players and managers are still being linked with moves to and from their respective clubs. In this regard, Liverpool is identical.
Some Liverpool-related links are credible, while others are completely unbelievable, and everything in between: a full spectrum of gossip to be dissected and analyzed.
The midfield is obviously the main area of the Liverpool squad that Jürgen Klopp knows will have to change this summer. As is well known, Jude Bellingham tops the list of transfer targets, but he is far from the only midfielder on the list. Liverpool may have gotten some good news about one of their ‘non-Bellingham’ targets, as a European rival reportedly has no interest in pursuing a deal.
Liverpool has also been linked with the signing of a defender from the Bundesliga, in a deal that could theoretically be completed immediately.
Here’s Liverpool.com’s take on the latest transfer rumors swirling around the Reds.
Mason Mount (Chelsea) Mount has been on Liverpool’s radar for some time, and the Reds could take advantage of Chelsea’s need to sell in the summer to meet Financial Fair Play regulations (Times).
And with the news that Bayern Munich has no immediate interest in signing Mount, the path to signing him may have just gotten a little bit easier. According to Christian Falk, a German journalist.
“Chelsea’s Mason Mount was not an issue in the talks between Thomas Tuchel and FC Bayern,” Falk wrote.
“The new coach wants to get a sense of the team first.” The midfield, in particular, is more than sufficient. Further transfers would necessitate the sale of players.”
This is despite a report in The New York Times yesterday that Tuchel is interested in reuniting with Mount this summer. While Falk does not rule out a move to Bayern Munich, it appears that the German perspective is that Liverpool does not have an immediate transfer rival.

Evan Ndicka’s (Eintracht Frankfurt)
According to The Daily Mirror, Liverpool is interested in signing the Eintracht Frankfurt defender and may make a move for him.
According to the report, Ndicka, who is available on a free transfer this summer, “ticks all the boxes” for what Jürgen Klopp is looking for in a center-back. The Frenchman could serve as a replacement for Jol Matip, either in the short term or in the long term. Ndicka has appeared in 24 Bundesliga games for Frankfurt this season.
And, as the ECHO points out, with a contract expiring in the summer, Liverpool is already in a position to make an approach and potentially close a deal before the transfer window opens.
According to Liverpool.com, Liverpool does need some new blood in the center back position, and Matip appears to be the most likely departure, given his age and injury history. Ndicka would most likely be third or fourth choice for the time being, which he may not be happy about. However, with age on his side, he has the potential to develop at the club over the next few seasons. Signing him on a free transfer, a market that Liverpool rarely enters, would be a wise move.
