Liverpool are ‘absolutely’ interested in Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge, according to GiveMeSport journalist Dean Jones
According to Jeunes Footeux, both the Reds and Chelsea have been linked with a January transfer for the 24-year-old.
According to Yorkshire Live, although the Norway international is unconcerned about his future, he would be interested in returning to the Premier League.
Berge, who joined the Blades for £22 million in 2020, is said to have a £35 million release clause in his contract.
“There is clearly interest here, and it has been for a long, long time,” Jones said.
“Liverpool have looked at him in the past, but he sustained a really significant injury at a period when they were probably most interested in him.”
Liverpool requires midfielders.
Jurgen Klopp desperately needs midfield reinforcements in the winter transfer window.
The Reds’ midfield is frequently plagued by injuries, and the team has become overly reliant on a core group of players who also require recuperation.
The defensive midfielder has been linked with a number of moves away from Sheffield United, but none have materialized. As a result, with his release clause likely less than £35 million, this may be a realistic aim for the Reds in January.
Klopp has already stated that Berge is a “really fascinating player,” so it wouldn’t be surprising to see him at Anfield in the future.
