Kyle Walker discussed his connection with Jordan Henderson on BT Sport’s Premier League storybook
One might expect Henderson and Walker to have a special relationship as two England internationals playing for the Premier League’s biggest rivals.
Walker claims that he and Henderson had known each other since they were seven years old, when they were in the Sheffield United and Sunderland academies, respectively.
The full-back claims he has a lot of respect for Henderson, but even though he admires his England teammate, he believes if he had to, he’d smash into him in a game against Liverpool.
The full-back was questioned if the City-Liverpool rivalry had an impact on the England team.
“To be honest, I’m not simply stating this; it’s not talked about. I’m the oldest, and I’ve known Hendo since I was seven years old, when he was at Sunderland and I was at Sheffield United.
“There is some competition, but the concept now when we travel to England is that we wear a different hat. We set aside our differences. If I had to go and smash Hendo in a game as a Manchester City player, I’d do it, but would I shake his hand and say congratulations afterwards? Of course I would, I have that much regard for him.”
COMPETITIVE
What else would a four-time Premier League champion expect?
Yes, it’s lovely to hear Henderson and Walker are buddies when playing for England, but when it comes to club football, they’re the worst of rivals.
When competing at the highest level, you can’t have any feelings for your opponents on the field, and Walker feels the same way about Henderson.
