Liverpool are said to be “desperate” to sign a new midfielder this month, with two targets identified ahead of their summer pursuit of Jude Bellingham
It is widely known that Liverpool are looking for new midfielders this month, as that position is clearly their weak point
After spending up to £44 million to sign Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven, they are likely to wait until the summer to add to their squad
TEAMtalk transfer expert Graeme Bailey, on the other hand, reports that they are “desperate to bring someone in” this month
They are naturally linked with several midfielders, with Bailey naming and Moises Caicedo as possible additions
Amrabat was mentioned as a possible addition after shining for Morocco at the World Cup, but there hasn’t been much talk about a move to Liverpool in recent weeks
Caicedo, on the other hand, has made an enormous impact for Brighton, and the 21-year-old performed admirably for Ecuador at the World Cup
Jurgen Klopp is a “huge fan” of Amrabat, according to Bailey, but the Reds are also interested in Caicedo
“There’s no denying that Liverpool needs to improve their midfield, and they know it,” Bailey told TEAMtalk
“In terms of this month they have been keen to bring someone in, and Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat is a player that Klopp is a huge fan of.
“His performance at the World Cup finals was exceptional, but that has meant that his value is firm and Fiorentina don’t look like they will be persuaded into a loan deal with options – something which they were willing to do last year.
“There’s also Moises Caicedo, the Brighton star. He is interested in a number of Premier League clubs, including Liverpool.
“However, landing him in January will be extremely difficult. Brighton will demand at least £50 million, but I believe more than £60 million
Although it is anticipated that Jude Bellingham will cost roughly £130 million, Liverpool would want to acquire him from Borussia Dortmund in the summer
They will also compete against teams like Man City and Real Madrid. A deal for Bellingham is “far from” being finalized, according to Bailey
Jude Bellingham is unquestionably the “elephant in the room” whenever Liverpool and midfielders are discussed, he continued
We are aware of their affection and desire for him, but we are also aware that no agreement has yet been reached. Not at all!
And while there is optimism at Anfield that Liverpool could sign him, they are also aware that Real Madrid and Manchester City are also vying for his services. Additionally, there is no assurance that he will go this year from Dortmund
Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are expected to be replaced by any possible arrivals because their contracts expire in 2023
Both players have struggled with injuries recently and have only sometimes played for Liverpool.
However, according to the same article, Klopp is “open to a dramatic U-turn” to keep both players through this season
“The change might very well start from within in Liverpool’s midfield,” said the author. And Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are the players who appear to be leaving right now. On July 1st, both contracts expire, said Bailey
The two are currently scheduled to part ways, but I think Klopp would be willing to have them stay now that they are both participating once more
Overall, Klopp must make a lot of choices, but Liverpool must also make a lot of important ones.
