Matheus Nunes is expected to join Liverpool from Wolves this summer
That’s according to journalist Graeme Bailey, who was speaking on 90min’s Talking Transfers podcast about the Reds’ midfield plans this summer.
Anfield really needs to have a busy window. Jurgen Klopp’s team has had a dismal season overall. However, their performances have made it abundantly clear that a complete overhaul is required in the coming months.
And no area demands more attention than the midfield. Unfortunately, it appears that the name that many Liverpool fans have been hoping for will not be coming to Merseyside. According to The Times this week, the Reds have given up on signing Jude Bellingham.
A slew of other names have been considered. Matheus Nunes is one of the players Liverpool is interested in, having previously shown interest in the Portuguese before his summer move to Wolves.
A move for Matheus Nunes by Liverpool appears to be on the cards.
Nunes’ season at Molineux has been disappointing. His spectacular goal against Chelsea last weekend was his first in the Premier League.
However, it appears that Liverpool’s interest has not waned. In fact, Bailey has recently stated that a move to Anfield is looking increasingly likely.
“I’m told Liverpool is scouring Europe,” he said to Talking Transfers. “They’re not going to leave any stone unturned here.” Why not, if they require three midfielders? Check out everyone who is available. They’re getting a lot of offers.
“I don’t think it’s just a matter of them signing Matheus Nunes, though that appears to be the case.” They’ll look around to see what’s available for the money.”
This summer could be the ideal time for Liverpool to make a move for the ‘unbelievable’ 24-year-old. He’s had a disappointing year. However, the Reds do not typically spend the exorbitant fees that some of their rivals do.
As a result, they will be looking for exceptional value. And if they are convinced that Nunes is much better than he has shown this season, they may believe that pursuing a deal this summer makes perfect sense.
