‘It looks unlikely,’ says Jurgen Klopp of a ‘brilliant’ Liverpool player who will now miss the game against Arsenal.

Jurgen Klopp has spoken to the media ahead of Liverpool’s match against Arsenal on Sunday, and he has admitted that Luis Diaz is unlikely to return in time

Diaz has been out since Liverpool’s 3-2 win over Arsenal in October, when Mikel Arteta was in charge.

The 26-year-old sustained a serious knee injury but appeared to be on track to return in December, only to suffer another setback that has kept him out until now.

Diaz has returned to training, according to Klopp, but he is unlikely to play for the Reds against Arsenal on Sunday.

Klopp provided an update on Diaz’s fitness during his pre-match press conference on Friday morning, as seen on Liverpool’s official website.

Virgil van Dijk has trained ‘completely normal’ this week with Diaz and Thiago, according to the Reds manager.

However, it appears that the Colombian winger will have to wait until the match against Leeds to make his long-awaited comeback.

“Luis [Diaz] and Thiago were training normally. “We have a plan in place for Luis to be 100% available for Leeds,” Klopp said.

“It appears that Luis will not play on Sunday.” Thiago appears to be slightly different; he might be available; we’ll have to check.”

Diaz has been a big miss for Liverpool in recent months after a ‘brilliant’ start to life at Anfield.

But Klopp was probably correct not to rush the former Porto man back, especially after he suffered a significant setback a few months ago.

The good news for Liverpool is that it appears Van Dijk will be available for Sunday’s match at Anfield, while Thiago has a chance.
