There will be a lot of debate about Enzo Fernández after the World Cup. There was a lot already but the 21-year-old put together a tremendous performance, ending in the Young Player of the Tournament accolade.
Of course, there’s the World Cup trophy itself.
In a press conference on Monday, Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe was asked about the player. Would the Magpies be interested in signing Enzo after seeing his performances? Howe doesn’t appear to be confident.
“I’m aware of him, & I know him,” he said, quoting Craig Hope. “However, I believe the transfer price will be pretty high!”

Enzo Fernández and Newcastle United
Enzo will undoubtedly be expensive. That doesn’t seem to deter Liverpool, with Record, A Bola, and O Jogo all linking him to the Reds.
Of course, the midfielder is currently at Benfica, where they hope to keep him. At least until the summer – a January move would cost the player’s release clause of £103 million.
Yes, that is most likely too much for most clubs. We’d also wonder if Enzo would transfer to Newcastle right now, given the likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid have him in their sights.
What’s very evident, though, is that whoever signs Enzo is getting one of the best young midfielders on the planet. Jude Bellingham is the only one under the age of 22 you’d put ahead of him. That, of course, makes the Argentine one of the most sought-after players in the world.
We’d love to see him play at Liverpool. Naturally, Bellingham is our top pick, as is everyone else’s, but Enzo would be an excellent addition to the center. Both would be ideal, but we’d be content with one.
