Jurgen Klopp was taken aback before the match against Fulham when a Sky Sports News journalist asked if Liverpool could still finish in the top four
According to Sky Sports’ official website, Klopp was surprised when asked if the Reds could make an unlikely push for the top four, saying: “I cannot believe these questions, I’m embarrassed to answer them all of the time.”
“I have no idea; you should ask Manchester United and Newcastle what they think.” The only chance we have is to win football games, and then we’ll see what happens. My concern is that we continue to play the best football possible.”
With a win over Fulham tonight, Liverpool will be four points behind Manchester United in fourth, with the Red Devils hosting Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday night in what is expected to be one of the most exciting games of this Premier League week.
Indeed, while it is entirely possible that Liverpool will finish in the top four, the odds are still stacked against them, and there is every chance that the Reds will blow their chance of qualifying for the Champions League with another shocking defeat or draw in the upcoming fixtures.
Klopp can be excused for asking tiresome questions before the Fulham game.
Liverpool have a good chance of finishing in the top four this season if they get some help from Manchester United and Newcastle, but as the Liverpool manager has stated, his personal opinion on whether his team can do it is already tiring.
Liverpool still don’t control their own destiny with four games remaining after tonight, and while their form has been excellent in recent weeks, the Reds have shown this season that they are vulnerable to occasional slip-ups at the most inopportune times.
