Jurgen Klopp, according to Jamie Carragher, is close to using Trent Alexander-Arnold as a midfielder
Throughout his career, there have been numerous requests for Trent to return to his original role at the club. Yet, Klopp has never seriously contemplated doing so.
Yet the pressure is mounting, with his No.66 frequently caught off guard defensively. As a result, Reds icon Jamie Carragher believes Klopp will have to modify his right-position. back’s
Carragher is the most vocal in his support for Trent, the midfielder.
Carragher used his Telegraph column to explain why Trent should be moved, recalling a similar incident in his own career.
“Alexander-Arnold is as good as anyone in Europe in terms of passing range and the closest Liverpool has to Kevin De Bruyne or Steven Gerrard,” the 44-year-old remarked.
“Given how desperate Liverpool are for a creative midfielder, would changing him into a No 8 so he can fill those gaps to whip those spectacular passes into the penalty area be such a crazy move? Will Klopp consider it as an immediate measure with Stefan Bajcetic out for the season?
“I am confident Alexander-Arnold will return to midfield at some point, whether in his late twenties or early thirties. No matter how many medals a player has, the top will constantly be looking for ways to improve. Until then, he requires increased competition for his position and assistance to eliminate errors in order to avoid being targeted and exposed.”
Jurgen has nothing to lose.
We had always been opposed to this point of view until this point in his career. Why would you replace a player that is excelling in his current role?
But, with demonstrably subpar performances, the topic begs to be answered. Not only is Trent suffering, but Liverpool’s midfield desperately needs to improve.
At the very least, you’d think Klopp would give it a shot. It’s easy to see Alexander-Arnold causing havoc without having to worry about defense.
In the near future, it is unclear who will play at right-back. Despite a bad season in the middle, Joe Gomez normally looks excellent in that slot. Klopp might as well give it a shot. If Trent performs well, we may have one fewer midfielder to sign in the summer. We’d need a new right-back, though…
