Mason Mount has been discussed by Paul Merson, who believes Chelsea would be foolish to allow him join Liverpool this summer

Mount’s future at Stamford Bridge is currently uncertain. The England midfielder has failed to sign a new contract, and there is mounting speculation that he may be allowed to leave the club.

Liverpool are rumored to be interested in signing Mount. Jurgen Klopp is looking to revamp his midfield and sees Mount as the ideal candidate.

Nevertheless, Sky Sports’ Paul Merson believes he doesn’t understand Chelsea’s reasoning for allowing Mount go to Liverpool.

“Last season, Mason Mount was by far Chelsea’s top player. He was fantastic. It’s different when you work your way up through the ranks at a football club because you don’t have to pay anything. “When you’re bought for a lot of money, you’re considered more of an asset,” Merson explained.

“If Liverpool go and grab Mount and then Jude Bellingham, who may also move to Liverpool, you’ve got a title-contending team. Why would you want to take that chance? Why would you strengthen them? Mount is a fantastic player, and I adore him. He is currently not playing due to a contract dispute. They are not going to select a player who is unwilling to sign a new deal given the size of the group.”

NR Opinion: Mason Mount’s transfer to Liverpool is major news in the Premier League.
It would be an odd decision from Chelsea to simply let Mount go. Especially to a rival, as Merson implies.

If Mount signs for Liverpool, it will be enormous news in the Premier League. That would be one of the top players in recent seasons switching clubs with title aspirations.

Of course, Liverpool would be thrilled if they could land Mount. He is a top player with a wealth of experience who quickly boosts their starting lineup. Chelsea has a difficult decision to make here.
