Since then, the FA has been investigating the incident, but it has recently been confirmed that Hatzidakis will go unpunished.

“After reviewing all of the evidence in relation to the incident at Anfield involving Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson and match official Constantine Hatzidakis,” The Times’ Paul Joyce tweeted.

It’s a perplexing outcome.

It’s incredible that an official could strike a player with his elbow and go unpunished – imagine the uproar if it was the other way around.

The official has also issued a statement (as quoted by Joyce on Twitter) revealing that he has spoken with Robertson directly and has apologized to the Scotland captain.

“I had an open and positive conversation with Andy Robertson about the matter,” he said. “It was not my intention to make any contact with Andy as I drew my arm away from him, and I apologize for that.”
