THE LOWDOWN: GOMEZ INJURED

Gomez started Liverpool’s 5-2 Champions League loss against Real Madrid, but he was pulled off with little over 15 minutes remaining due to an injury, according to Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds have been plagued by injuries this season, with Virgil van Dijk missing seven games owing to a hamstring ailment and Ibrahima Konate missing the last four Premier League games.

THE MOST RECENT: DINNERY UPDATE

Dinnery told GiveMeSport that owing to the extent of the Englishman’s injury, he is unlikely to be risked for tonight’s match at Anfield.

“That’s a muscle problem,” remarked the injury expert. It’s one of those situations where you don’t want to take any chances.

“There was a little bit of a question mark as to what the initial problem was when he limped off, but it transpired that it was a muscular problem.

“With regard to that particular injury, it’s probably just a bit of a quick turnaround for Gomez as well, because those are the ones that may easily be worsened.”

THE RESULT: ANOTHER ANOTHER BLOW

It will be very frustrating for Liverpool that another another centre-back is out, but they will be encouraged by the news that Konate is expected to return to the team later evening.

Gomez has made 29 appearances for the Reds in all competitions this season, and has been dubbed “excellent” by members of the media.

While he is expected to play second fiddle to Konate and Van Dijk when both are completely fit, it is frustrating that Klopp will be without his backup option tonight, especially given the Reds’ upcoming schedule.

There is no timetable for the defender’s comeback to the first squad as of yet, but Klopp will be hoping for a quick recovery.
