The 24-year-old has been a standout for the Seagulls, assisting them in achieving European qualification for the first time.

Mac Allister has had an outstanding season for both club and country, winning the World Cup with Argentina in December.

Liverpool, who have been heavily linked with the star, have won the race for his signature, according to TyC Sports journalist Gaston Edul, beating out stiff competition from Chelsea.

This was also supported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who claimed ‘personal terms’ had been agreed upon.

Brighton boss Barber, who was a guest on talkSPORT Breakfast, was asked about Mac Allister’s future.

“I saw him down on the pitch looking very happy, and obviously we want him to be here next season,” he explained.

“Obviously, we know there will be a lot of clubs wanting him to play for them, not just in this country, but all over Europe and the world.” But, for the time being, he’s dressed in blue and white stripes, which I adore.

“If I lost sleep over every report about one of our players doing that, I wouldn’t be sleeping very well.”

“At the moment, he’s focused on doing what he can for us during his final two games.”

It is unclear where the midfielder will play next season, but he has a clause in his contract that allows clubs to bypass negotiations if the fee is large enough.

It means Liverpool only need to persuade the star that Anfield is the right place for him if they offer the asking price.
