Jürgen Klopp, manager of Liverpool, is forging ahead with his ambitions to overhaul the Reds’ midfield this summer, with or without James Milner

The Liverpool manager is desperate for new faces in midfield. It’s been a problem all season, and FSG are expected to back the German manager in the market.

A number of players are expected to leave in the summer to make place. Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have left, while Arthur Melo’s loan will not be extended.

Nevertheless, in addition to those marginal players, James Milner could leave. Milner, according to The Mirror, is being permitted to make his own decisions about his future. They claim the ‘ball is in his court’ when it comes to a new contract, with Klopp set to move forward with his new signings anyway.

Of course, Klopp likes Milner’s squad experience. Nevertheless, with Milner now far into his 30s, Liverpool fans have questioned the rationale of selecting him on such a regular basis.

Milner has made almost 300 appearances for Liverpool since his arrival. Milner, now 37, appears to have plenty more life in the tank as he approaches 1000 appearances.

Editorial Opinion: James Milner should consider leaving Liverpool.

Milner’s issue is that he clearly still wants to play a significant part for whatever he plays for. Furthermore, with so many new signings likely, he won’t be getting any playing time at Anfield in the near future.

Klopp obviously enjoys having him around. Milner, on the other hand, will not be content with simply being a player in the dressing room for the sake of it.

Milner might consider leaving now, with 900 appearances on the horizon. He’s done so much for Liverpool, won everything, and will depart with his head held high if he does leave.
