How Lijnders’ early return to pre-season training might benefit Klopp

Liverpool’s Under-21 and Under-18 teams returned to pre-season training earlier this week, a week before their senior counterparts. This week has also served as a final audition for several of Liverpool’s starlets in order for them to be promoted to the first team before the new season begins.

Pep Lijnders, the club’s assistant manager, reports back for pre-season at the same time as the club’s youngsters, in part to see who can help Klopp and the first team. Last year at this time, Stefan Bajcetic and Bobby Clark pushed their claim for senior involvement, following in the footsteps of Kaide Gordon.

“About Kaide, before pre-season, we always make sure that our biggest talents start a week earlier than we start,” Lijnders told reporters in September 2021, outlining Gordon’s ascension and the approach. “They begin with Under-23s training, and I went to watch, and I saw one player who has fire in every moment he plays.”

“He passes players as if they aren’t there, so I call Jurgen and say, ‘Wow, we have a new player here.'” We take all of these young guys to pre-season, and you know you’ve got a good player when the senior players start looking after this young player.

Nunez’s role is generating a lot of buzz.

After Darwin Nunez reported for the first day of pre-season, Liverpool fans showed their excitement for the forthcoming season.

As the Reds players returned to the AXA Training Centre in preparation for the forthcoming season, footage emerged of the Uruguayan talisman sharing an embrace with manager Jurgen Klopp.

Nunez missed the end of the previous season due to a toe injury, which prevented him from participating in Marcelo Bielsa’s first international matches as La Celeste boss. As a result, the 24-year-old was among the first members of the squad to return to Merseyside ahead of pre-season travels to Germany and Southeast Asia, which concluded at Preston North End’s Deepdale against SV Darmstadt.

The video, which was shared by Liverpool, delighted fans because last season’s star signing appeared to be in good spirits about reuniting with the German. Both teams gave Nunez a warm welcome as he seeks to get off to a quick start next season as the tactician considers the best system to fit in his four forwards.
