According to Football Insider, Liverpool have decided not to compete with Arsenal for the signing of Jurrien Timber this summer.

The Gunners are now in negotiations with Ajax about signing the 22-year-old after an initial £30 million deal was rejected.

The Dutch giants are expected to want a fee closer to £51 million in order to release the defender.
Any dreams of a bidding battle resulting from rumored Liverpool interest appear to be crushed.

Contrary to persistent rumors, Football Insider believes that the Reds have no intentions to sign Timber this summer.
Instead, it is thought that they will explore elsewhere to reinforce Jurgen Klopp‘s backline.
Liverpool’s current objective is to bolster a midfield that was the basis of many of their issues throughout the disappointing 2022-23 season.
That process began earlier this month with the £35 million signing of Alexis MacAllister from Brighton.

And it is anticipated to continue as they narrow down a shortlist that includes, among others, Nice‘s Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone of Borussia Monchengladbach, as Football Insider revealed two weeks ago (June 19).

Once that issue is resolved, Klopp is expected to focus on adding defenders to his roster.

Timber recently intimated that his future may not be with Ajax, whose academy he joined when he was 13 years old.

“A transfer is getting closer and closer, so to speak,” he told De Telegraaf. There is a lot of concrete interest, and I’ve already made arrangements with Ajax.”Ajax urged me to remain for at least one more season and to extend my contract last year. As a club boy, I did it with love, and we will reassess the matter after the season.”
