The possibility of a new deal with Fiorentina significantly diminishes Jurgen Klopp’s prospects of success, but Express Sport looks at four options who may fill a similar position in the second half of the season…

Amrabat isn’t the only North African holding midfielder Liverpool has been keeping an eye on in recent months. According to reports, Bennacer is on the Reds’ radar, and more conversations with his representatives are planned after the World Cup.

The Algerian was formerly on Arsenal’s books, but he only made one senior game before departing for Serie A. The Gunners, who are now regulars with AC Milan, are reported to be eager for a reunion, but Liverpool may have something to say about it.

Fernandez, Enzo

Fernandez, who is only 21 years old, has progressed swiftly since joining Benfica from River Plate during the summer. Despite relocating from South America to Europe, his quality remains a cut above many of his midfield opponents, prompting Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni to ease him into the starting XI for the World Cup.

According to reports from his nation, Liverpool has reached an arrangement with Fernandez’s team ahead of a move in 2023. Although other outlets say this is not the case, the Reds’ interest is said to be strong, and they may step up their attempts if Amrabat slips through the net.

Caicedo, Moises

January may be the ideal moment for the Brighton star, who was eliminated from the World Cup group stages with Ecuador. The outstanding performances of Argentina midfielder and Seagulls teammate Alexis Mac Allister have taken some of the spotlight away from the 20-year-old who has dominated the Premier League midfield this season.

Whereas Brighton may have previously thought Caicedo was untouchable, the right offer may persuade them to part ways with him after the New Year. Liverpool is said to be in the running, with Manchester United also aware of his enormous potential.

Milinkovic-Savic, Sergej

The Serbian star is nearing the end of his contract, which could persuade Lazio to cash in during the upcoming transfer window. Milinkovic-Savic has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, and he still has plenty to give at 27 years old.

The 6ft 4in midfielder possesses attractive qualities at both ends of the field and may be an additional ingredient in Klopp’s midfield. With Arsenal apparently leading the race, time may be running out for the Reds to lay their cards on the table.
